The luxury-appointed Mars-One, made in collaboration with a local offroad camper trailer manufacturer, achieves its modest towing weight with the use of composite aluminium panels for the walls, floor and the roof, which Mars Campers’ national sales manager Celso Prado says is strong enough to stand on.
The Mars-One’s hot-dipped galvanised chassis rolls on a 2000kg-rated independent trailing arm suspension with 12in electric brakes and offroad tyres delivering a whopping weight carrying capacity of 820kg. Scrub bars and an offroad coupling afford protection and articulation on the tracks, while a front toolbox and twin gas bottles ride up front.
Inherently insulated, the Mars-One achieves climate control with reverse cycle air-conditioning, double-glazed windows, a roof hatch, a pull-out awning and a triple lock entry door. Other comforts include a king-size bed, copious storage inside and out and an external shower, serviced by two 65L water tanks and a Truma hot water system.
Two fixed 155W solar panels and a twin 100Ah battery system with invertor deliver power to 12V outlets throughout when off the grid, while full 240V wiring affords comfort when camping at powered sites. Cooking facilities include an internally-fitted 20A microwave and 140L fridge, with an external slide-out barbecue and a fully plumbed sink, fitted with hot and cold water taps.
As shown, the Mars-One is designed for a touring couple but Mars Campers expects a family version with twin rear bunks will be available soon.
