Skamper Kampers Ranger XL Upgraded

Camper Trailer Australia — 19 July 2016

Relaunched as the Ranger XL, the original model in Skamper Kampers’ line-up has a major facelift for 2016.

The softfloor Ranger was first released in 2010, undergoing an initial upgrade shortly after that when round tube axles were upgraded to beam units, the metal mesh stoneguard was replaced with a nylon mesh fitting, and the tent was fine-tuned.

Driven by customer demand, the new Ranger XL now has most of the older options built in along with a few major structural changes.

CHASSIS

The camper now has a longer 100x50x3mm chassis and the main frame rails run unbroken from the hitch to the taillights, giving it good rigidity and strength. The additional length creates space for additional gear at the front, including a large fridge/storage box combo.

Another addition to the Ranger is a bar across the bottom front of the front box to protect the aluminium outer panels from the unwanted attentions of passing trees.

SUSPENSION

The camper rides on a trailing arm independent suspension, with twin shocks and coils and 10in electric brakes on 1.4 tonne hubs with Ford bearings.

PRICE

The additions and extensions see the price of the Ranger XL climb from $7000 to $10,500 (not including dealer delivery or onroad costs), but it’s much more user-friendly than it was and, at that price, is still within reach of most.
